OpusClip is the cheapest way to turn long videos into a daily stream of shorts at $15 a month. Riverside is the choice when you record remote guests and want hosting included. Canva handles thumbnails and social graphics, ElevenLabs supplies voiceovers from $6 a month, and HeyGen creates avatar video without a camera. Runway generates new footage from prompts, Captions suits phone-first creators, and Submagic adds strong caption styles to shorts.

Short answer

We compared documented features and published prices for 9 tools and scored each on capabilities, ease of setup and value. Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page in US dollars when we checked; where a page showed another currency, the price is marked as pending. Most of these tools bill in credits or media hours, so the spec sheet shows what each free plan includes.

Free plan; Hobbyist from $16 per person per month billed annually or $24 monthly

Quoted from the Descript pricing page on November 6, 2026: Hobbyist $ 16 $ 24 per person / month

Descript treats a recording as a document. It transcribes your audio or video, and you cut, rearrange or delete footage by editing the text. On top of that sits Underlord, an AI co-editor that can make polished edits or build a video from a prompt, plus one-click tools such as Studio Sound for noisy audio, Remove Filler Words, Eye Contact and Green Screen. Create Clips pulls short highlights for social posts, and the publishing tools draft show notes and YouTube descriptions. Hobbyist costs $16 per person per month billed annually and includes 10 media hours and 400 AI credits a month with 1080p exports. Creator at $24 annually raises that to 30 hours, 800 credits and 4K exports, and adds a stock media library. The free plan is enough to test the editor with 60 media minutes a month. The limits to watch are the media hours, which are counted per editor, and the AI credits that the heavier generative tools consume.

    What it does well

    • +Hobbyist plan exports 1080p without a watermark
    • +Custom voice clones and stock AI voices are part of paid plans
    • +Multitrack transcription keeps each speaker on a separate track

    Where it falls short

    Price

Free plan with 60 credits a month; Starter $15 per month billed monthly; Pro $29 monthly or $14.50 per month billed annually

Quoted from the OpusClip pricing page on November 6, 2026: $15 billed monthly 150 credits per month

OpusClip does one job and does it with little effort from you: paste a long video, and its AI picks the moments most likely to work as shorts, scores each one for virality, adds animated captions and reframes the shot for vertical, square or wide formats. A social scheduler then posts to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels. Starter costs $15 a month, billed monthly only, for 150 credits, captions in 20+ languages, filler and silence removal and watermark-free exports. Pro is $29 a month, or $14.50 when billed annually, and adds a 2-seat team workspace, AI B-roll, a hook generator, multiple aspect ratios, speech enhancement, video dubbing and export to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. The free plan gives 60 credits a month, but clips are watermarked and must be exported within 3 days. OpusClip is not a full editor for long-form work, so most creators pair it with one.

    What it does well

    • +Lowest-priced dedicated clipping plan in this list at $15 a month
    • +Free plan includes 60 credits every month
    • +Pro billed annually costs $14.50 a month with 2 seats

Free plan; Pro $24 per month billed $288 annually or $29 monthly; 14-day free trial

Quoted from the Riverside pricing page on November 6, 2026: Pro + Live Studio $29 $24 /mo Billed $288 annually

Riverside started as a remote recording studio and now covers most of a podcast workflow. Each guest is recorded locally on separate audio and video tracks, so a weak connection does not ruin the file, and Pro records up to 4K video and 48kHz audio with a teleprompter for the host. Editing is text-based, and an AI agent handles repurposing: Magic Clips, show notes, AI B-roll, eye contact correction and the removal of silences and filler words. Pro also adds podcast hosting with analytics and publishing to YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Instagram and LinkedIn. It costs $24 a month billed annually, or $29 monthly, with 15 hours of separate track downloads. The Grow plan at $34 annually adds 1080p multistreaming, a newsletter, a creator website and social scheduling. The free plan is generous for calls and single-track recording but gives only 2 hours of multitrack recording once, at 720p with a watermark.

    What it does well

    • +Recording, editing and hosting live in one subscription
    • +Free plan allows unlimited single-track recording and video calls
    • +14-day free trial on paid plans

No US price was listed when we checked. See the Canva pricing page.

Canva is where many creators make everything around the video: thumbnails, carousels, channel art, story graphics and short edits. The editor covers 1,000+ design types, and the free plan already includes 1.6 million templates and 4.7 million elements, one limited Brand Kit and limited access to the Standard and Premium AI tools. Pro unlocks 3.6 million templates and 141 million elements, 5 Brand Kits, 10x more AI allowance than Free, social scheduling through the Content Planner and access to Affinity with AI. Business raises the AI allowance to 20x Free and adds collaboration and approvals. All AI tools draw on a shared monthly allowance, and the AI Pass add-on buys more for heavy users. Canva showed us prices in our local currency, so we list its price as pending until we can confirm the US dollar figure. Its video editing is fine for social clips but does not replace a dedicated editor for long recordings.

    What it does well

    • +Permanent free plan with 1.6M+ templates and 4.7M+ elements
    • +Apps on Mac, Windows, iOS, Android and Chromebook

    Price

Free plan with 10k credits a month; Starter $6 per month ($1 first month); Creator $22 per month

Quoted from the ElevenLabs pricing page on November 6, 2026: Then $6 per month

ElevenLabs is the voice layer for a lot of creator work. Its text to speech produces narration for faceless channels, explainers and audiobooks, and voice cloning lets you generate lines in your own voice, which is handy for fixing a script without recording again. Starter costs $6 a month, with the first month at $1, and includes 30k credits, a commercial license, Instant Voice Cloning, 20 projects in Studio and the Dubbing Studio for translating video audio. Creator at $22 a month adds Professional Voice Cloning and 121k credits. The free plan has 10k credits a month for testing, but without the commercial license you would need to monetize content. Beyond speech, the same account covers speech to text, sound effects, music generation and image and video tools, so one subscription can supply a full audio track. The main cost driver is credits: long scripts burn through the lower tiers, so estimate your monthly minutes before you choose a plan.

    What it does well

    • +Cheapest paid plan in this list at $6 a month
    • +Commercial license starts on Starter
    • +Free plan includes 10k credits every month

    Where it falls short

    • −Free plan has no commercial license

    Price

Free plan with 3 watermarked videos a month; Creator $29 per month; Pro $49 per month; yearly billing gives 2 months free

Quoted from the HeyGen pricing page on November 6, 2026: Creator $29 / mo For publishing video

HeyGen lets you appear in videos you did not film. You create a Custom Video Avatar from your own voice and likeness, or pick one of 500+ stock presenters, then type a script and the avatar delivers it. Video Agent and HeyGen Video 1 generate footage from text, images or references, and translation covers 175+ languages and dialects on paid plans. Creator costs $29 a month with 600 credits, 1080p export and no HeyGen branding, and includes up to 10 hours of HeyGen Voice text to speech. Pro at $49 a month adds 1,000 credits, 4K export, Cinematic Avatars, videos up to 30 minutes and editable translation scripts. Credits roll over for one month on both, and yearly billing gives 2 months free. The free plan allows 3 watermarked videos a month of up to 1 minute each. Avatar video suits explainers, courses and translated versions better than personality-led content where viewers expect the real you.

    What it does well

    • +Free plan includes one Custom Video Avatar
    • +Credits roll over for one month
    • +Yearly billing gives 2 months free

    Where it falls short

    Price

Free plan with 125 one-time credits; Standard $12 per month billed annually or $15 monthly; Pro $28 annually

Quoted from the Runway pricing page on November 6, 2026: For curious creators trying AI video $15 $12 /month

Runway is the generative studio in this list. Instead of editing footage you shot, you create new shots from prompts and images using Runway's Gen-4.5 and Gen-4 models, along with third-party models such as Kling 4.0, Seedance 2.5 and Nano Banana Pro, all billed from one credit balance. Standard costs $12 a month billed annually, or $15 monthly, for 625 credits, which Runway equates to about 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 video, 104 seconds of Gen-4 Turbo or 78 images. It also includes music, voice and sound effects generation, 4K upscaling and watermark-free exports. Pro at $28 annually gives 2,250 credits, a Brand Kit, a custom voice clone and the Runway MCP. The free plan's 125 credits are one-time, so it is a short trial rather than a working plan. Generated video is expensive per second, so Runway suits creators who need a few striking shots rather than hours of footage.

    What it does well

    • +Several leading video models under one credit balance
    • +No watermarks from the Standard plan
    • +Apps for iPhone and Android

    Where it falls short

    • −625 Standard credits equal about 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 video

Quoted from the Captions pricing page on November 6, 2026: Use generative AI to make new footage, AI actors and more $24.99/mo

Captions began as an app for adding animated subtitles to phone videos and has grown into a full AI editor built for talking-head content. The free plan covers the teleprompter, trimming, zooms, transitions and captions in 100+ languages with one template. Max costs $24.99 a month and adds 500 AI credits, 100+ caption templates, AI Edit styles that produce a finished video, a chat-based editor, AI Twin and custom AI actors, Clips for turning long videos into shorts and generated B-roll, music and sound effects. Frontier plans start at $69.99 a month with 1,400 credits and access to more advanced models. AI Translate and AI Lipdub redub a video into other languages, and AI Voice Clone and AI Denoise handle audio. Captions notes that its listed prices reflect iOS plans only, so Android and web prices may differ. It is best for creators who film and post from their phone; long-form editors will want a desktop tool.

    What it does well

    Price

Starter $19 per month billed monthly for 15 videos; Pro $39; Business $69; up to 41% off yearly

Quoted from the Submagic pricing page on November 6, 2026: For individuals to start with video creation $19 / mo.

Submagic is a caption-first editor for vertical video. Upload a short clip and it adds animated captions, then applies AI edits such as auto zooms, hook titles, removal of bad takes and silences, clean audio and B-roll. Captions can be translated, and the Pro plan adds publishing and analytics for social accounts plus a Brand Kit. Starter costs $19 a month billed monthly for 45 credits, which Submagic equates to 15 videos of up to 2 minutes each, exported in 1080p without a watermark. Pro at $39 a month raises that to 40 videos of up to 5 minutes and adds Storyblocks B-roll, and Business at $69 per member covers 100 videos of up to 30 minutes with 4K exports at 60 FPS. Yearly billing saves up to 41%. There is no permanent free plan, and the per-video limits are tight on Starter, so Submagic fits creators who post a set number of polished shorts each month rather than high-volume clipping.

    What it does well

    • +Up to 41% off with yearly billing
    • +Business exports in 4K at 60 FPS

Before you pick a product or a plan

Start from your bottleneck

Pick the tool that removes your slowest step. If editing long recordings takes the most time, look at Descript or Riverside. If you have long videos but few shorts, OpusClip or Submagic fit. If you need voiceovers or on-camera video without filming, ElevenLabs and HeyGen do that.

Read the credit and hour limits

Most creator tools meter usage. Descript counts media hours per editor, OpusClip, HeyGen, Runway, Submagic and Captions use monthly credits, and ElevenLabs credits map to generated audio. Estimate how many minutes you publish each month and check that the plan covers it before comparing prices.

Check exports and watermarks

Free plans usually watermark exports or cap resolution. OpusClip free clips expire after 3 days, Riverside free recordings are 720p with a watermark, and HeyGen free videos are watermarked and limited to 1 minute. 4K export starts on Descript Creator, HeyGen Pro, Riverside Pro and Submagic Business.

Confirm commercial rights for AI output

If you monetize content, read the license for generated voices and footage. ElevenLabs includes a commercial license from its $6 Starter plan but not on the free plan.

Compare annual and monthly prices

Annual billing cuts several prices sharply: OpusClip Pro drops from $29 to $14.50 a month, Runway Standard from $15 to $12 and Riverside Pro from $29 to $24. Try a monthly plan first, then switch once the tool is part of your routine.
