Reading the numbers
AI is now standard equipment in sales. Salesforce reports that 87% of sales organizations use some form of AI, HubSpot finds only 8% of reps use none, and Salesforce says 54% of sellers have already used AI agents. Official statistics put this in proportion: the U.S. Census Bureau finds 18% of all U.S. firms used AI in a business function in late 2025, and Eurostat counts 20.0% of EU enterprises. Where firms do adopt AI, sales and marketing is the most common function, cited by 52% of U.S. adopters.
The case for AI in sales rests on time. Salesforce finds the average seller spends 40% of the week selling and Bain estimates about 25%. Gartner measures an average saving of 4.8 hours a week from AI tools, but 72% of sales organizations report low reinvestment of that time into high-value selling, and Gartner finds that the organizations that do reinvest are 2.2 times more likely to exceed customer growth goals.
AI SDRs and agents are the fastest moving part. Outreach finds 22% of sales development teams have fully replaced human SDRs with AI and 45% run a hybrid model. Amplemarket's platform data shows the share of new prospects receiving AI-assisted outreach rose from zero in mid-2024 to 37% in September 2026, and AI now traces to 30% of new outbound opportunities at the median CRM-connected team. Gartner expects agents to outnumber sellers 10 to 1 by 2028.
Results are uneven. Bain reports win rate improvements of 30% or more in early successes and ZoomInfo finds 80% of weekly AI users report higher win rates, but only 28% of leaders in Highspot's survey say AI improves sales performance, and Gartner finds 20% of sales organizations report a negative return of 50% or more on AI. Buyers add another constraint: 45% used generative AI in a recent purchase, yet 69% prefer to check AI-generated insights with a sales rep (Gartner).

We used primary sources only: national statistical offices (U.S. Census Bureau, Eurostat), research and advisory firms reporting their own surveys (Gartner, Forrester, Bain & Company), and software companies reporting their own surveys or anonymized platform data (Salesforce, HubSpot, ZoomInfo, Outreach, Highspot, Pipeliner, Amplemarket, Clari). Every quote was checked against the live source page. Methods differ: Salesforce surveyed 4,050 sales professionals in 22 countries in August and September 2025; HubSpot surveyed about 1,000 sales professionals; Gartner's figures come from surveys of 210 and 227 sales leaders and 645 B2B buyers; Highspot commissioned Dynata to survey 463 sales and revenue leaders; Outreach surveyed 500 sales professionals; Amplemarket and Clari analyze activity on their own platforms. Vendor surveys skew toward companies that already buy sales software, and time savings and win rate changes are mostly self-reported. Predictions are labeled with the year they describe. We store the sentence each number appears in, and a script loads the publisher's page again to make sure that sentence is still there. Our methodology has the details.
