Portkey is a gateway first, and its Prompt Engineering Studio puts prompt management on the same path as model routing. You build and compare prompts in a multimodal playground, testing them side by side across 1600+ models, then save them to a Prompt Library organized in folders with access controls. Any update to a saved prompt creates a new version, you can switch back to an older version at any time, and stable versions are promoted to production and served through API endpoints. Prompt Partials let several prompts share standard instructions, and prompt observability shows how each one performs. For teams that already need fallbacks, load balancing, caching and guardrails, this removes a separate tool. The free Developer plan is for prototyping, with 10k logs a month and only 3 prompt templates. Production costs $49 a month with unlimited templates, 100k logs and $9 per extra 100k requests. Governance features like SSO and budget limits are Enterprise only.
